What is Freestyle Frisbee?
The Freestyle Players Association was formed to oversee the competitive aspects of freestyle frisbee, and to Spread the Jam and to help new players learn how to freestyle.
Freestyle
Performing creative, artistic and athletic moves with flying discs is the essence of freestyle. One of the most dramatic events in disc sports, competitive freestyle combines aspects of gymnastics and dance with the basic game of throw and catch. Teams of two or three players perform choreographed routines consisting of throws, catches and moves with one or more discs.Starting with simple moves like a behind-the-back catch, freestyle has evolved into a crowd-pleasing event with moves such as air brushes, nail delays, and triple-spinning catches. Routines are three to five minutes in length and are evaluated by judges who base their scores on the difficulty (10), artistic impression (10) and execution (10) of the routine. The team with the highest score wins (30 is a perfect score).
Freestyle is also about what happens in a city park between novices. Catching a disc under the leg, or tipping a high throw and then catching it. This is freestyle too. Often you'll find competitive players freestyling just for fun. Improvising with each other, often in large groups - and no judges. This is called jamming, and to most players, it’s the most important part of the sport.
Pulling off co-operative moves ("Co-oping") is jamming at its best, whether it’s planned during a routine or it just happens spontaneously between players at a park. For example, a jammer may kick the disc to a second player who then chest rolls the disc to a third player who finishes the move off with a leaping flamingitis catch.

The Mission of the Disc Golf Foundation
Education Advancement Endowment
The Mission of the Disc Golf Foundation (DGF) is multifaceted. First, it is to support educational programs that promote awareness of the sport of disc golf. Secondly, the DGF facilitates the advancement of disc golf, for example, through the support of new course development. Finally, the DGF endows worthy cultural and historical institutions that reflect the evolution and spirit of disc golf.
Education, Advancement, Endowment...these are the cornerstones of the Disc Golf Foundation.
Why disc golf? The DGF and the members of the greater disc golf community believe that our sport is unequalled in providing recreation, exercise, companionship, fun, and contact with Nature. Players of all ages and ability levels can have an inexpensive and fun fitness program for the rest of their lives. And reflecting this, the growth of disc golf has been dramatic, especially with youngsters.
The DGF is a non-profit, charitable organization. When giving to a charitable organization, like the DGF, you receive a tax-deductible receipt for the total value of the donation made. You can help a worthy cause and get a tax break at the same time. The Board of Directors of the Foundation are a group of dedicated and experienced members of the disc golf community. They generously donate their time and expertise in a completely voluntary manner.
Through support from generous folks like yourself, the Disc Golf Foundation will grow to become an important, and essential, institution in the world of disc golf. Part of this growth will include the establishment of office facilities for the DGF at the National Disc Center in Augusta, GA. This is the same site where the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) will soon be located.
As we evolve, the Disc Golf Foundation will be dedicated to creating a foundation for the future of this wonderful sport we all share.

Our official name is Southern California Disc Golf Association, Inc. We were founded in 1996 by John Ahart, Loren Price, Tim Selinske, and Larry Bell to promote the sport of disc golf in the Southern California region. Our primary mission is to bring the sport back to the prominence it once had, through a series of PDGA-sanctioned tournaments. Disc golfs' first permanent pole-hole course was established at Oak Grove Park, Pasadena — now known as Hahamongna Water Shed Park — and the PDGA (Professional Disc Golf Association) was formed shortly afterwards and now serves over 15,000 disc golfers worldwide.
- The purpose was to raise awareness by bringing PDGA benefits closer to home for the large contingent of disc golfers in the region that would have to travel to other regions in the country to compete for PDGA points. We are best described as a regional chapter of the PDGA and are supported by a combination of individual memberships, sponsors, merchandise, and tournament income. In 1998 we incorporated as a nonprofit mutual benefit corporation to ensure that our mission is perpetual and will be carried out by future generations of disc golfers.
- Other goals of the organization include expansion of new courses, maintaining existing courses, provide a network of communication and assistance for the public, player's, course pro's, vendor's, and manufacturer's involved in disc golf.
